Hamachi GTA IV setup

1.
|
• Files you need:
- Hamachi 1.0.3.0 (Free)
- Live Hamachi Force (registry file to force games for windows 'live' using hamachi - FILE INCLUDED, TO REMOVE THE FIX)
- GTA IV Patch 1.0.2.0 (you need this if you want to play with other people that have patched aswell!) *IMPORTANT!*
- Ping Fix

2.
|
• Ports:
If you know how to open your ports (CORRECTLY!).
- 1337
- 7777
- 3704
TCP & UDP
Open these ports in your router (if) and in Windows.
You can check these ports with 'http://whatsmyip.org/ports'
Use the 'Custom Port Test' and test them with the ports above.
If you get a Open or Closed message your good to go, if you get a Time-out message then you might have done something wrong.
If you can't get it to work, Then skip this step and move on. |

• Hamachi:
Install Hamachi, and run the registry fix. (you can disable the registry force, by running the [OFF] reg file.)
Make sure you allow Hamachi through your firewall on both the UDP and TCP ports.
When you're done with installing go to
Preferences ->
Status Tab ->
Detailed configuration - >
UDP = 1337
TCP = 7777
And hit OK

• Setting up your network:
- Gateway 5.0.0.1

• Almost done, Join an Hamachi network:
Find a network in your area, this will increase the chance that you will have a lower ping.
You can also create your own network, and post it on the forum.

When you can see the server in GTA IV, and you can join it but get kicked straight back to the lobby after the loading screen, Then your ping is too high. There is nothing we can do about it right now.
Do not forget the registry file, which forces 'Games for Windows Live' to use the Hamachi network!

• Xfire (optional):
Join the "GTA PC" group on Xfire, and meet other GTA IV players. (join here)

Very useful to talk in-game while playing, you don't have to minimize.
It also tracks your game statistics like how many hours you play a week etc.
Make screenshots, record movies or even broadcast a live game!

Patch
|
You need the latest version of GTA IV.
Update your game with 'Games For Windows Live' or download the update below.

Ping!
|
Most of the people can't play after doing the tutorial, this is probably a ping issue.
This explains why we can play together easily, as Dutch players.
We have fast connections and live 'close' to each other, The max ping is probably 20 or 25 ms or perhaps even lower!
So try to play with people from your city, and ping them in Hamachi and see what ping results you get.
Try to host or join each other when you have a ping of ~20ms.
Until there is a solution to lower the ping limit, there is no way to play with each other trough Hamachi.
I've done a quick search trough some game files of GTA IV, but couldn't find any ping limits of some kind.
Maybe a programmer could make something to fix this ;) |
